Cash for business move

Apr 24, 2002

BUSINESSES having to relocate from Barnard Castle’s Commercial Yard

will receive priority from Teesdale Enterprise Fund.

Teesdale Council’s Director of Development Services, Tony Seaman, gave the assurance at Wednesday’s meeting of the development and leisure committee.

During a discussion over who was eligible for help from the fund – launched recently by GlaxoSmithKline to offset planned job losses at the town plant – Mr Seaman said although he had not personally met with the Commercial Yard businesses, his officers had.

He said funding was available not just for new businesses.

“I understand it is for expanding existing businesses, not those we have thrown out,” said Coun Jo Fergus, referring to the recent planning decision.

But Mr Seaman assured her: “The first ones to be considered will be from Commercial Yard. They will have priority.”
