Safeway delay

THE opening of the new Safeway store in Barnard Castle has had to be put back a month after building work was delayed. The store was due to open on March 26. However, it is now anticipated it will be ready by April 30.A spokesman for Safeway told the Mercury the delay was caused, in part, by the bad weather.
“The weather has been a bit of a problem,” she said. “There were also some minor delays which can happen with a development like this.”
