Safeway delay

Feb 26, 2003

THE opening of the new Safeway store in Barnard Castle has had to be put back a month after building work was delayed. The store was due to open on March 26. However, it is now anticipated it will be ready by April 30.

A spokesman for Safeway told the Mercury the delay was caused, in part, by the bad weather.

“The weather has been a bit of a problem,” she said. “There were also some minor delays which can happen with a development like this.”
