Time to play ball

Feb 12, 2003

CAMPAIGNERS pressing for better facilities at the Green Lane play area in Barnard Castle, say it’s time for the town council to pull its finger out and get on with improving it.

While they have welcomed news that a survey of all the town council’s play areas is imminent, they fear it is likely to be at least three years from their original complaint before anything is done.

“This is long overdue,” said Pauline Harrison, of Victoria Road, who was among the concerned residents when a public meeting into the play area was called on September 12, 2001.

Football posts, basket ball courts, seating for parents and somewhere for the children to ride their scooters, were identified as needs by parents.

“The need has not gone away,” said Mrs Harrison. “If anything it has increased because there are more children along there now.”
