Stoneleigh latest

Dec 18, 2002

THE plan for extra care units on the Stoneleigh residential care home site in Barnard Castle, which Teesdale councillors rated as “too poor to approve,” is being recommended as “acceptable” at Durham County Council this afternoon (Wednesday).

The report, by county head of planning, John Suckling, says comments are still awaited from Teesdale Council and Barnard Castle Town Council.

“Whilst acknowledging that there are some weaknesses to the detailed design of the scheme, I am of the view that it represents an acceptable approach to the issues generated by a difficult site that in overall terms, is appropriate to this important location,” says Mr Suckling.
