Mill meeting

Dec 18, 2002

A PUBLIC meeting is being held on Friday into the controversial proposal for a decked parking area over the river at Thorngate Mill, Barnard Castle, should it be converted into 16 flats.

Coun Newton Wood, who has been approached both by neighbours of the mill and Startforth residents, told the Mercury: “I realise that something has got to be done down at the mill, but the proposals for car parking seem to be a little out of place, to protrude into the river and I am interested in hearing what the residents have got to say about it.”

The meeting is at 6.30pm at the Teesdale Council offices at Teesdale House in Barnard Castle, and it is expected that planning officers, the architect and representatives of the developers, the Renaissance Co Ltd., will be there.
