THERE was an excellent response to the Christmas window competition run by the Barnard Castle Meet committee, with 50 windows being judged on Saturday.
Meet chairman, Steve Wilson, said: “We think the town looks good; it’s very encouraging and we are delighted.”
Tates won the large shops section and a £25 prize which they donated to St Teresa’s Hospice; The Hayloft won the medium shops (£25) and the Thrift Shop in Hall Street won the small shops section (£25).
The Montalbo Trophy went to The Hayloft. Highly-commended were Castle Cakes and Sugar Craft on The Bank and A Cut Above.
Dawn-Marie Prewitt’s outside lights display at The Oval, at Stainton Grove, won her a bottle of Champagne, with Peter and Norma Murton of Hawthorn Drive, taking second place, with their singing Santas, winning them a box of chocs.
