Bollywood comes to Barney

Sep 7, 2010

A TASTE of Bollywood came to Barnard Castle at the weekend when one of the town’s best-loved buildings played host to a wedding with a difference.

Groom Rejan Jerath and his bride-to-be, Neena Choundhury, picked the historic Bowes Museum as the venue for their traditional Indian wedding on Sunday.

More than 400 friends and family turned up from as far away as Malaysia and Hong Kong to wish the Newcastle couple well.

The couple had two ceremonies – a civil ceremony inside the museum’s Jubilee Rooms, which had 100 guests and a traditional Indian ceremony inside one of the marquees.

The grounds at the rear of the museum were temporarily transformed with three huge marquees, set up by a London events agency whose staff travelled up to Teesdale last week.

The couple are honeymooning in Goa where they will have another Indian ceremony, followed by week-long celebrations.
