Cannabis plants seized

Aug 27, 2010

POLICE seized cannabis plants and rifle bullets when they raided a house in a dale village last week.
A team of officers and a sniffer dog made the discovery when they searched a property in the Butterknowle area on Thursday morning.
Police found a number of cannabis plants, thought to have a street value of between £200 and £400, and .22 rifle rounds, which the owner did not have permission for. A male was arrested and later received a police caution after admitting the offences.
His attempt to grow the cannabis was described as “fairly amateurish”.
Beat officer for the area PC Dave Williamson, who attended the incident, said: “We have recovered a controlled drug and bullets, so it’s a good seizure for us.”
The raid followed information received from a member of the public.
PC Williamson added: “We want to encourage people to come forward if they have information and this was a good example of how we can work together to tackle crime.”
He also praised the teamwork of Barnard Castle Police.
