Antiques expert brings TV cameras back to dale

Jul 28, 2010

Antiques expert David Harper headed back to the dale to film scenes for his new TV show last week.
The presenter, from Lartington, was in Barnard Castle for BBC One’s Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
The show sees Mr Harper pit his wits against a fellow antiques dealer in an on-screen challenge to raise the most money for charity.
After donating his £3,172 profit from the last series to The Witham Cinema, in Barnard Castle, Mr Harper will be raising funds for the Great North Air Ambulance in the latest challenge.
“I know several people who have had their lives saved by the air ambulance,” he said. “For us in the north it is an amazing charity and I have nothing but praise for them.”
Mr Harper filmed at Barnard Castle’s thriving ‘antiques quarter’ on The Bank, including at his own shop.
“When I first came to Barnard Castle it was fantastic for antiques and it has really picked up again,” said Mr Harper, who sold a camphor wood chest to Anne Robson from Robson’s Antiques.
“It feels now like it used to feel, with loads of visitors coming into the area looking to spend. If we can build on it, it will bring people in from all over the country, and be of benefit to everyone.”
