Cash windfall for seven local community groups
Jul 27, 2010
SEVEN voluntary and community groups have been handed a cash windfall in the first round of awards from a new funding pot.
The organisations from around Teesdale have been successful in their applications to the Teesdale Action Partnership fund for people aged over 55.
The Teesdale Older People’s Support (TOPS) fund is targeted at dale groups who are improving the lives of local older people.
Groups can apply for grants from between £50 and £1,500.
The following groups have received funding:
Abbeyfield Barnard Castle Society Ltd has been handed £585 for accommodation refurbishment at Abbeyfield House in Barnard Castle.
Evenwood and Ramshaw Community Association has received £1,055 to pay for light lunches for the over-55s.
Staindrop Women’s Institute has been granted £250 to help fund a visit to the Wenslydale Creamery
Bowes Agricultural Society will receive £685 to purchase new display stands and £200 for trophies.
Mickleton Wednesday Club has been given £600 for a day trip to the Lake District or East Coast.
Teesdale U3A will receive £1,435 to purchase new equipment.
Cockfield Christmas Lighting Fund has been awarded £280 to fund a Christmas tea for elderly residents.
A number of the successful recipients of TOPS funding will be profiled in the Mercury over the coming months.
Meanwhile, other local groups are urged to come forward to apply for cash.
Michele Armstrong, chief executive of 2D, which supports community and voluntary groups, said: “This is a great opportunity for local voluntary and community groups as often it’s the small amounts of money that can make the most difference.
“Plus it’s encouraging to see the area action partnerships working closely with the voluntary and community sector and beginning to understand the importance of smaller organisations.”
All voluntary and community groups are still welcome to apply and while match funding is encouraged, fully funding a project will be considered.
