Scheme offers help for dale companies

Jul 9, 2010

Free specialist advice is now available across Teesdale to support local residents, businesses and the rural economy.
Durham County Council is bringing the Rural Jobs Fund to Teesdale to boost residents’ employment options and help businesses looking to expand and recruit in the dales.
The council’s Rural Jobs Fund team is working in partnership with development agency One North East and the project is managed by the Enterprise Agency in Barnard Castle.
Phil Beasley, from the South Durham Enterprise Agency, said: “With financial incentives of up to £1,500 on offer for job creation initiatives, we particularly welcome enquiries from local employers.”
Diane Spark, from UTASS which has recently received support from the project, said: “This scheme makes a real difference to the local job market and helps employers in the dales.”
Debbie Watson, project manager from the council, said: “The team of advisers are working hard to link up with lots of local partners as well as other regeneration initiatives in the area.
“Our central aims are to support residents into the jobs market and create long term employment opportunities by making it easier for unemployed people to find work, provide job coaching and give advice on how to overcome rural barriers such as distances travelled to work.”
Cllr Neil Foster, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: “Supporting the growth of local businesses to help create and protect jobs is key to the success of the rural economy in Teesdale and a priority for Durham County Council.”
