Massive entry for Gainford show

Sep 4, 2002

THERE was a massive entry of 636 for this year’s Gainford Annual Horticultural Show held on Saturday at Gainford school.

“The numbers are up, the quality’s up – everything’s up,” said a delighted Brian Harrison, show manager.

“The flowers have done particularly well this year, the quality of the flowers and the flower arrangements has been absolutely beautiful.”

For the first year there was a special presentation to the trophy winners.

The new vicar Rev Maureen Alderson and new headteacher Howard Blindt presented the trophies to the successful entrants.

Bill Linsley had a grand haul of three trophies for the best leek, the most points in the vegetable section and the best fruit or vegetable exhibit in the show.

He paid tribute to the members of Gainford Horticultural Society for the hard work they did behind the scenes.

“These are the unsung heroes of the show,” he said. “They’ve put a lot of hard work in and the show wouldn’t be on if it wasn’t for them.”
