A historic film of the Barnard Castle Meet festival has been unearthed at a house in the town.
The 8mm cine film - marked as taken on Whit Monday1965 – was shot by former town clerk Bill Foster.
It shows a parade of floats, marching bands and fancy dress wearers along the market place – including one man in a very questionable costume.
The footage then cuts to some unstable looking craft competing in the boat race on the River
Tees.
The late Mr Foster’s niece, Hazel Flinn, and nephew, Neville Spark, found the 8mm cine film among possessions at their uncle’s home.
“He was always very interested in photography and technology and we found a lot of film, including this of the Meet,” said Mrs Flinn.
“We hope the film is of historical interest to people locally.”
Adrian Ball of Cockfield-based AB Productions transferred the film to digital format.
