POLICE saw the funny side after the theft of three stone monkeys was reported to PC Gibbin.
The appropriately-named PC Mark Gibbin was on duty at Barnard Castle Police Station last Wednesday when a resident reported that the ornamental monkeys had gone missing.
The monkeys were found at The Cricketers’ Arms on Friday.
Acting Sergeant Peter Moore joked: “The three monkeys were found outside the pub – they had been refused entry because of their age.
“One did not say anything, one did not hear anything and one did not see anything.
“PC Gibbin was a bit disgruntled when he heard about the crime.”
However, the police gave a warning to thieves after a stone frog was taken from another garden in Barnard Castle on Friday.
Acting Sgt Moore said: “What seems like a fun idea after a few drinks can have serious implications with confrontations with homeowners and trespassing on property.”
