THE owner of a sandwich shop, which opened in Barnard Castle last week, wants the business to open until 3am at weekends.
Subway - part of a worldwide franchise chain - was opened in Galgate and sells mostly fast-food sandwiches and salads.
Its owner, Ramin Moradi, wants to attract hungry late-night drinkers by getting a late licence.
Mr Moradi who also runs a Subway in Chester-le-Street, said: "Barnard Castle is beautiful and a lot of tourists visit in the summer, so I'm sure the shop will be successful.
"We want to apply for a late licence for people who leave pubs and bars - it's what people have been asking for in the town."
The sandwich chain will be open from 8.30am to 9.30pm between Monday and Thursday; 8.30am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday; and 10.30am to 7pm on Sunday.
Mr Moradi plans to apply for a late licence "within a month". If given the go-ahead by Teesdale District Council's licensing committee, it would mean Subway will open until3am on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Manager Sarah Balmer said: "Hopefully, there will be no problems. Other Subways have late licences in other towns."
Barnard Castle's carnival king and queen, Sophie Metcalf and Liam Brown, opened the business on Wednesday.
