OFFICERS investigating a fatal collision on the A66 in which two elderly women died, have renewed their appeal for information.97-year-old Susan O'Hare from Darlington and 69-year-old Dorothy Legg from Thornaby both died when the blue Vauxhall Astra they were travelling in was in collision with a red Toyota Corolla on the A66 at Winston Crossroads, approximately 3 miles west of Scotch Corner.
The collision occurred at around 5.45pm on Wednesday 11 June when the Astra was joining the A66 from the direction of Gilling West and collided with the Toyota which was travelling west.
TC Ged Smith of Richmond Road Policing Group said: "We are appealing for anyone with any information to contact us. In particular we would like to speak to a man who stopped at the scene and administered first aid to one of the casualties. The only information we have at this stage is that he was driving a silver car. We would appeal to him to come forward, as he may have vital information which could help the investigation.
"The road would have been busy with commuters at the time of the collision and we are appealing to anyone else who may have witnessed the incident or the manner of driving of both vehicles prior to the collision, to get in touch."
Anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant they may think it is, should contact TC Ged Smith on 0845 60 60 247.
The driver of the Astra, a 69-year-old man from Ingleby Barwick is still in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Corolla, a 23-yr-old man from Barnard Castle suffered a wrist injury and has since been discharged from hospital.
