Cows killed on A66

Jun 3, 2008

THREE cows which wandered on to the A66 at Bowes were killed in two separate accidents early on Tuesday morning.

Police said a group of six beasts had wandered onto the road, close to the turn-off to Barnard Castle.

The first accident happened at about 3.30pm in what were described as foggy conditions.

Two cows were killed in a collision with a HGV.

A second accident, involving a Leyland DAF truck, happened at about 6am, and resulted in the road being closed for about 30 minutes.

A police spokesman said neither of the drivers had been injured.
