Puma on Scar Top?

Jul 10, 2002

A LARGE `puma` was spotted in Barnard Castle on Monday night.

Barnard Castle police told the Mercury that a 14 year-old boy and his friend reported the sighting while walking a dog at Scar Top at about 11.40pm.

The large "puma-type cat" ran off across the green, towards the castle, in the direction of the river and into the woods, said police. "There have been no other reported sightings of the cat," said PC Graham Scarr.

POLICE are also appealing to anyone who may have lost a white budgie. The plain-white bird was found in Hutton Magna.

Anybody with any information is asked to call Barnard Castle police on 01833 637328.
