Meet weekend 'was best in years'

May 27, 2008

ORGANISERS of this year's Barnard Castle Meet have praised the Teesdale community for making the three-day carnival one of the most successful in recent memory.

Angela Grady, who toiled away behind the scenes assisted by the Meet's small committee, said she was ‘over the moon' with the weekend's success and said she wanted to thank everyone who supported the historic event.

She said: "It was a fantastic weekend. The weather was brilliant and there were thousands of people who turned out to make it one of the biggest for years.

"It's nice to see so many happy children enjoying the event - the whole community was involved."

All roads led to the Demesnes as thousands turned out for Barnard Castle Meet's finale

Fears had surfaced that this year's Meet might have been cancelled due to a lack of help, but thanks to the hard work of the committee and a number of supporters the event went ahead. However,  Angela stressed that the team needed more help to keep the event alive.

She said: "If anyone can help us by joining the committee that would be wonderful and, of course, because we don't fit the criteria for grants, we also rely of the support of local businesses."
