Gardening goods pour in for fundraising sale

May 12, 2008

UNUSED lawnmowers, unwanted shredders and unplanted perennials are just some of the gardening goods that have been donated to Teesdale Conservation Volunteers (TCV) to help them raise money to build their new eco-centre.

The myriad of garden paraphernalia had been given to the group to be auctioned off at a sale they will hold next month at their Deepdale-based site.

Martin Bacon, of TCV, said: "We have about 50 different lots to be auctioned off so, far but if anyone has anything else we'd really appreciate it.

"It's a good time to do a spring clean at the minute and anyone who has anything to do with the garden, or even things like bikes, can either bring it down to us or give us a call."

All the money raised from the sale, which will take place on June 7, will go towards building TCV's new eco-centre, which was given planning permission at the end of last year.

Martin said: "If people donate electrical things we would be grateful if they checked that they worked first but everything we sell will be PAT tested."

Anyone can turn up on the day and the community-focused group said they would deliver bulkier items locally.

Rotters composting group, which is part of TCV, has just started its kerbside collections of green waste from homes within the dale and this year has branched out into other areas like Evenwood, Cockfield, Ingleton and Gainford, among others.

The green sale kicks off at 10.30am and anyone wanting any more information can call TCV on 01833 690022.
