Caravan thefts

Jul 2, 2002

POLICE are warning about an increase in the theft of caravans.

Insp David Allaway said nine had been stolen in the Wear/Tees division recently, including three in Teesdale.

"We did a spot-check on a car and caravan travelling through Barnard Castle, and found the car engine number had been removed and the caravan was stolen," Insp Allaway told the Mercury. He said owners should be vigilant, and the public should be on the lookout where there is a discrepancy between the licence plate on the vehicle and the one on the caravan.
