Police chase ends in Barney

Sep 11, 2007

A HIGH-SPEED car chase ended in Barnard Castle on Monday night after an armed raid on a Darlington store.

Two men wearing black ski masks threatened staff with a crowbar before stealing a till at the North Road Co-op at about 9.45pm on Monday night.

The raiders made off in a black Fiat Punto, towards Barnard Castle. The car was eventually abandoned at Egglestone Abbey car park.

Five suspects were arrested as they tried to make off on foot.

The men, who are all aged in their teens and early 20s, are from the Greater Manchester area. They were due to be questioned at Darlington ad Bishop Auckland police stations this morning.
