IF you only see one panto this year, then it must be The Adventures of Sinbad at Richmond. The Georgian Theatre is the perfect theatre for an intimate pantomime where after a couple of hours you feel you have been friends with cast for years, such is the interaction with the audience. Tony Liddington directs for the second year and brings his own style with so much attention to detail you could easily watch this show again and again and never get bored.
Dominic Goodwin as Dame Donna Kebab looks so comfortable in his role and looked as if he really enjoys the interaction with the audience. Dominic is one of the best Dames in the business. Joe Fleming as Mustafa Nana is full of energy and makes the most of the stage using his acrobatic skills. Joe Nicholson as Garganto filled the stage and was loved by the audience. The entire cast work incredibly hard they must be exhausted after each performance; they never stop moving from dancing, singing, acrobatics and even playing instruments.
The songs may not be the strong point of this show and a better song to end on would have welcomed though that does not detract from this show at all.
The set is the best panto set I have seen at Richmond, designed by Simon Pell, turning the entire theatre into a boat bringing the audience right into the action, at times you just don't know where to look. This is one panto I will be returning to before the end of the run, I just hope they still have tickets left.
Sinbad runs until January 7th
