Strictly Tap Dance Fever - Darlington Civic Theatre

May 29, 2010

STRICTLY Tap Dance Fever, from the creators of Spirit of the Dance, is a fast moving dance show of course featuring mainly tap. For me this is certainly a show of 2 halves. The first half was very traditional tap featuring numbers from musicals including Singin' in the Rain to 42nd Street. The cast of 16 are led by Lara Denning and Steven Serlon, this is where for me the show slightly failed, though Steven Serlon was excellent in the singing roles he performed, Lara Denning lacked the vocal range to lead the show. I have to admit during the interval I was struggling to see where the show would go, although the dancing talent shone through, I was still looking for that extra wow factor.

It did not take long in the second half to get the wow I was looking for, as the dancing moved into modern times, I was left amazed, as they made it all look so easy. I am certainly no dancer, which was proved to everyone that evening, as I was one of a few members of the audience selected to join the professionals on stage, entertaining for my companion but the wow factor certainly left the stage at that point.

Strictly Tap Dance Fever runs at Darlington Civic Theatre until Saturday 29th May.
