FOR me this show was definitely a new experience. I have heard lots about the stage show, so I arrived early just to soak up the atmosphere. Once I had negotiated my way past the door staff convincing them I didn't have any rice or a water pistol concealed discreetly about me I made my way to the bar to observe the audience in their varied costumes. I like many others were suitable underdressed but that does not stop everyone really getting into the spirit of the show. The show is very fast moving with lots of audience joining in on their favourite parts. At least one water pistol managed to get past the tight security, which was quickly confiscated, which amused my companion as she realised she knew the culprit from work. The story tells of Brad, Richard Meek, and Janet, Haley Flaherty, as engaged sweethearts who are forced to seek refuge in a castle full of the strangest characters you are likely to meet. The story is narrated by Maxwell Caulfield, seen recently on Emmerdale. The star of the show for me was David Bedella as Fran ‘N' Furter, who was absolutely superb in the role.
I have to say I had a smile on my face all the way through, as this is a really fun show. With fantastic songs including Sweet Transvestite, Damit Janet and The Time Warp I will be back to see this show very soon.
Rocky Horror Show runs at Darlington Civic Theatre until Saturday 15th May and can also be seen at Sunderland Empire from 14th - 19th June
