The Wreckers - Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond
Apr 26, 2010
CLAPTRAP theatre presented the new play by Tom Needham - The Wreckers at Richmond Theatre recently. This spine tingling ghost story written by Tom Needham certainly hit the spot as I was on the edge of my seat all through the performance. The story is set in a remote cottage by the sea, which was built from the wreck of a boat, which was lured to the rocks by wreckers after the cargo. The spirits of those who drowned are still within the wood of the boat and the ghost of a girl, Rosa, who drowned is out for revenge.
Graham, played by Simon Waley and his partner Anna, played by Cal Stockbridge, have been looking after Graham's grandson when his daughter Katie, played by Katie Turner, returns from a spell in re-hab along with a friend she met there, Michael, played by Chris Laishley. There are of course many arguments as the four characters all try to get what they want from the situation they are in. The story, though cleverly reveals more and more to the history of the cottage and family before the unexpected ending.
The acting in this well structured play is brilliant throughout.
