RICHMOND Amateur Dramatic Society's first production this year was the comedy thriller by Yorkshireman Norman Robbins, A Tomb With A View. Set in an old spooky cobweb lined library, complete with secret entrances the impressive set was soon filled with the Tomb family who would make the Adam's family look normal.Hamilton Penworthy the trusty family solicitor, played by Warnock Kerr, is at Monument House, the family residence of the Tomb Family, to read the will of the late Septimus Tomb, who recently died in mysterious circumstances. His offspring Lucien, played by Mike Walker, Dora, played by Norma Rogers, Emily, played by Suzy Brown, Marcus, played by Stewart Kerr and Monica, played by Sarah Seymour, wait impatiently for the will to be read. As Hamilton has informed them the staff, Anne Franklin, played by Katie Bottomley and Agatha Hammond, played by Lynne Kerr, will be present as well as a stranger to the house a writer Ermyntrude Ash, played by Sue Tandy, who also brings into the mix Peregrine Potter, played by Jon Cunningham. Once all gathered together a plot of murder and mystery with many twists and turns follows.
It has to be said for a first night this was a very slick performance, all cast members put in terrific performances, I did though have a couple of favourites and they were Suzy Brown, playing Emily Tomb who gave a superb performance throughout and Katie Bottomley playing Anne Franklin the nurse, as during the evening her performance got stronger and stronger. Gary Winn, director, has done a superb job getting just the right amount of suspense and comedy from a great script.
A Tomb With A View runs until Saturday 27th March at The Georgian Theatre, Richmond.
