Singin’ in the Rain -Darlington Civic Theatre

Sep 11, 2009

HAVING seen this production earlier in the tour I was looking forward to seeing it again as it is one of those shows which always has the wow factor. I was not disappointed.

Packed with so many well known songs from Good Morning, Make Em Laugh, Broadway Melody and of course Singin’ in the Rain this is a fast-paced production from the first song through to the finale.

Tim Flavin as Don Lockwood, Jessica Punch as Kathy Seldon and Graeme Henderson as Cosmo Brown have a great on stage relationship and the talent shines through from the singing, dancing and acting.

My favourite again though was Amy Griffiths as Lina Lamont, she has this role down to perfection.

Unfortunately not everything went smoothly on the first night. The stage at Darlington is smaller than many theatres and although this creates a more intimate setting, there were a number of problems with masking the backstage which, at times, was distracting.

Singin’ in the Rain can be seen at Darlington Civic Theatre until Saturday, September 12.
