I live in Newgate Barnard castle and I know I am not alone in complaining about the parking in Newgate. It is becoming a problem and has been for a while, there is a car park across the road from where i live called The Hole in the Wall car park, but people decide to park along Newgate instead of using this car park, which leads to problems when it comes to parking outside my house.
I know there is no law that states I have a right to park outside where I live, but in this current world we live in, having my car where I can see it, helps to deter thiefs and vandals, its where I can keep an eye on it and when I have been shopping there is no where for me to park to unload my shopping.
But this is not made possible by other people who use Newgate to park in for work/shopping etc.
It is about time something was done about this, people just park willy nilly, where they like, but not only this parking and leaving big gaps.
I do have a suggestion to this problem, by making most of the parking for residents only, this would move other car owners else where of course, but then if you make most streets for residents parking, this would make car owners use the car parks, making more money in the long run for the council.
I think it is time that the council took at look at the parking problems in Barnard Castle, they know there is a problem, especially in Newgate.
If the council sits there and does nothing, sooner or later the residents in Newgate will take the matter into there own hands.
You can talk to any of the residents in Newgate or take a look at the posters in peoples windows to find that parking is becoming a pain.
For the council to say there is nothing they can do, is not true.
Also the council says they are going to add a new entrance to the Hole in the Wall car park, right opposite my front door, this causing again problems to me parking outside my property and will only be a matter of time before there is an accidently due to the lorries and cars that speed down the road.
The council needs to sit up and take notice of residents in Barnard Castle as it is people like us that elect the councillers into there position at the council.
