It is important at the moment to make every effort to distinguish between genuine malpractice over MPs' additional living allowances and the barrage of hyperbolic journalism and cynical attempts to score political points (from whom, exactly, is Helen Goodman 'under fire'?). It is for example astonishing that Tory candidate Barbara Harrison should be calling for all Members to have their first home in their constituency; is she unaware that her own leader, independently wealthy David Cameron, has been paid £1,700 of public money every month to support his constituency house in Oxfordshire?
