To bee or not to bee?

Valentine Dyall

"A group of eco-experts are doing their bit to help save British bees by encouraging more people in Teesdale to keep hives", wrote Trevor Brookes (6.4.09), followed a few lines later by "The whole colony collapses and the worker bees just disappear. No one knows what’s causing it, but GM crops could be having an effect". How could that be as there are no GM crops grown in the UK? Was it perhaps just a bit of free-lance scare-mongering by your correspondent riding some hobby horse of his or does he know something denied to the rest of us?
