I wish to reply to a letter regarding an interview broadcast on BBC Look North last week involving an allegedly uncaring resident. I was horrified to read your correspondent's comments. The lady in question went out of her way to make my husband and I feel very much at home in Barney when we retired here earlier this year. Nothing is too much trouble for her - whether it be looking after our garden; our dog; our breakfast needs - her jam is unrivalled locally - always a cheery smile and a mine of local information. This is someone who cares passionately about Barney and its residents and who gives 100% of herself to the local community.
As an ex-Darlingtonian, I cannot say I ever encountered the same generosity of spirit there.
Mr Scales you couldn't have got Barney and one of its most loved residents more wrong!
