I have an idea..

I have an idea. We all agree that there is virtually nowhere to park in Barnard Castle, and even if you do find somewhere there are no toilets, so you won’t be staying long. So what we need is a large short stay car park with a pleasant view (so you don’t need to get out), preferably close to one of those lovely new takeaway shops, which might be prepared to deliver direct to your car. Overlooking the river would be nice, especially for all those stressed HGV drivers who find reading signs and turning corners so debilitating.
So, here goes – what if we dismantle the Castle (already started years ago, so don’t say it won’t work), and reassemble it - stone by stone - on the site of the redundant toilets where it can be appreciated by everybody as they drive across a reconstructed Teesdale Gateway, where the Butter Cross used to be. Revenue from the Castle Car Park could be used to fund new underground toilets on the site of the old Gateway, using those clever beacons as illuminated signs.
It works for me…
