Car Parking

Sylvia Bailes

IN the early years of this decade there were no extant Traffic Management Orders in Barnard Castle. That meant that you could literally park anywhere and for as long as you wanted unless you were committing an offence over which the police could intervene. Traffic Management Orders are the responsibility of the County Council and eventually new Orders were produced, which I recall took up a full page in the Mercury, and therefore there were rules about where and when you could park. The problem is that they haven’t been enforced by the County Council. Has a Traffic Warden ever been seen in Barnard Castle? Have the current County Councillors, Richard Bell and Jo Fergus, done anything about it? Will the candidates for the unitary elections in May include it in their manifesto and, if elected, ensure that parking in Barnard Castle is regulated ?

Yours sincerely,
