Dr. Rowan Williams
John Constable

GIVEN the furore over the opinions of the Archbishop of Canterbury regarding the possible use of some parts of Sharia law in the UK, many of us could be forgiven for thinking that we have woken from a nightmare only to find that we are actually living that nightmare in the manner of “Life on Mars” or “Ashes to Ashes”
It really is no surprise that so many feel that the Church of England has completely lost its way. Archbishop Williams is the latest in a line at all levels in the church who have consistently ignored the feelings of the mass of British Christians many of whom like me would probably still want to be involved in our local churches if we felt in any way valued or respected by those responsible.
It is time now for a complete re-think of the place of the church in our lives; it surely cannot be safe for such radicals as Dr. Williams to be seated in the House of Lords however weakened that establishment may be following recent reform.
It is very significant that some of the loudest condemnation of Dr. Williams has come from British Muslims who feel that he has set back the cause of integration in this country in huge measure.
The old saying is that charity begins at home, when Dr. Williams is confident that the Church of England is doing the best it can for its own then I would be more than happy for him to spread his net wider.
In the parish of Lynesack and Softley , it is easy to find out what is happening in Lesthoto by reading the parish magazine but apart from the odd recipe which can be useful you will learn very little about the problems and concerns of local parishioners.
