Rising costs of the Meet

ONCE again, the Whit weekend is a memory and we start counting the cost of staging this annual event. Although the weekend was a great success, the weather was not very kind to us and Whit Monday was blighted with rain and a cold wind. These conditions affected our roadside collections and the total collected was £1,000, down by approximately £300 on the previous year and, of course, the conditions also affected the takings on the Demesnes show field. The final cost of staging the weekend was nearly £12,000 and we will have to raise approximately £7,000 to stage the 2008 weekend. We are a self-funding organisation and would be grateful to any businesses, organisations or individuals who would like to donate to the event. We do have sponsors in Barnard Castle and we are very grateful to them for their continuing support. (A list of our sponsors will be published at a later date). Costs for the weekend are spiralling with new health and safety regulations pushing up the cost of staging events.
