Toilets should have been open

ON Friday, May 25, my husband and I had our two grandchildren at Barnard Castle fair. It was a sunny evening and the children were enjoying the rides. Then my grandson, who is two-and-a- half-years-old asked to go to the toilet. I took him to the public toilets in the car park next to the fair, only to find they were locked. A passer-by saw my dilemma and said toilets were in Morrisons. I ran into Morrisons and as I approached the toilets a security officer said I could not use them. The store was still open and people were waiting to be served. As I spend on average £70 a week at this store, I was annoyed that my grandson could not use the toilet. I asked the security officer where I was expected to take him. He said the public toilets in the car park. I told him they were closed and he just shrugged his shoulders. Someone heard me ask him and said that I should take him into the toilets in the Working Men’s Club. So we ran across the car park. He was upset and getting desperate by this time and fortunately we got there on time. Why were the public toilets not open? As I pay my ever rising council tax every year, I would expect to be able to use the public toilets in Barnard Castle, especially on one of the busiest weekends of the year. Come on, Teesdale District Council, get your act together. If you want people to come to your town, provide facilities for them to use. Our night could have been spoiled by such a simple issue.
