Youth Centres and Facilities

I strongly agree with Mrs. Thresher (22 Feb 2005) about the youth facilitites in Barnard Castle and the surrounding area.

As a student who has recently moved away from Barnard Castle to University, I have experienced the lack of youth facilities and activities available to the young people of today.

I was lucky and became involved in an Exchange Programme ran by Teesdale Community Resources (T.C.R.) and I visited France and Maderia, working with teenagers from different countries, for example Romania and Hungary. It was an amazing experience and I would definately advise young people to become involved in T.C.R as it is an extremely friendly place to go and "hang out". They must realise that there is a huge variety of activities that could be available to them if they had ideas about what they wanted to do.

It is very disappointing news that the proposed building of the new youth centre, that was supposed to be close to Teesdale Sports Centre, is not going ahead because i think that, the new building would of been a great opportunity for the young people of Barnard Castle to become involved in. I know for certain that my younger brother who is going on sixteen would go and spend his free time there with his friends.
