Attention: The Editor.

I have been referred to you by the Bowes Museum. I am researching the family of Charles Ivers, who was born and brought up in Staindrop. He left England with his newly married wife in 1883 for Australia from Skipton. His son became a War Artist for the Australian forces in the 1st World War. The father of Charles was Thomas Ivers, from Ireland, and his mother Hannah Hartley, whose father was a Master Quarryman in Staindrop. I would be interested to know whether there are any references to these families in your archives or whether any of your readers might know of their presence in Staindrop and if there are records of the quarries as well as those of the school and local chapels that have survived. I note from one of your current news items that there is a Hartley Close in Staindrop - perhaps that has some coonnection.
